Skincare Ingredients Library
Explore the active ingredients powering our formulations.
The Aussie Man uses Australian native botanicals and proven active ingredients. Every ingredient in the range is included for a specific reason backed by evidence, not for marketing appeal or trend following.
Australian native ingredients like Kakadu Plum, Lemon Myrtle, Lilli Pilli, and Quandong have been used for centuries and are now supported by modern research confirming their skin benefits. Kakadu Plum contains more natural Vitamin C per gram than almost any other plant source. Lemon Myrtle has documented antimicrobial properties. These are not exotic fillers. They are active ingredients chosen because they work.
Alongside the Australian botanicals, the range includes globally recognised actives including Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Gotu Kola, and Seabuckthorn Extract. Each ingredient page below explains what the ingredient does, what the scientific evidence shows, which products contain it, and what skin concerns it addresses.
Ingredient transparency is a core principle. If something is in the formula, it is in this library with a full explanation of why.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Barbadensis, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
Aloe Vera is probably the most recognisable ingredient in this range, and for good reason. It has been used on skin for thousands of years across cultures from ancient Egypt to traditional Chinese medicine, not because of clever marketing but because it genuinely works. The gel inside the aloe leaf is made up of over 75 active compounds including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and amino acids. When applied to skin it does several things at once: it hydrates without adding oil, it calms inflammation, and it creates a light protective barrier that helps everything else you apply absorb more effectively. In The Aussie Man Daily Moisturiser, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice is the first listed ingredient, which means it forms the base of the entire formula. This is not a token inclusion. It is the foundation the product is built on.
Australian Tea Tree
Melaleuca Alternifolia, Tea Tree Oil
Australian Tea Tree is one of the most well-known natural antimicrobial ingredients in existence, and one of the most misunderstood. Most people know it as something to dab directly on a pimple. The reality is that at the right concentration in a well-formulated product, it works more effectively and with far less irritation than applying it neat. It comes from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree, which grows naturally in northern New South Wales. The oil has been used by Aboriginal Australians for centuries as a wound and skin treatment. Modern research has confirmed the mechanism: a compound called terpinen-4-ol disrupts the cell membranes of bacteria and fungi, effectively neutralising them without the systemic side effects of antibiotic ingredients. In The Aussie Man range, Tea Tree Oil is an active ingredient in the Breakout Treatment, where it works alongside Aloe Vera, White Willow Bark, Lemon Myrtle Oil, and Pineapple Extract. Each ingredient in that formula addresses a different part of the breakout cycle: the Tea Tree handles the bacterial element, the White Willow Bark clears the pore, and the Aloe Vera calms the inflammation that makes breakouts look worse than they are.
Gotu Kola
Centella Asiatica, Centella, Tiger Grass, Indian Pennywort
Gotu Kola is a herb native to Asia and parts of Australia that has been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. In those traditions it was considered a longevity herb. In modern skincare it is valued for something more specific: its ability to support collagen production and strengthen the skin's structural integrity. It is the key active in The Aussie Man Anti-Ageing Elixir, where it sits alongside Seabuckthorn and Vitamin E in an oil-based formula designed for evening use. The combination is deliberate. Oil-based formulas penetrate the skin barrier more effectively at night when the skin is in repair mode, and Gotu Kola works best with sustained contact rather than a quick rinse-off application. If you are using the Anti-Ageing Elixir as your PM step, Gotu Kola is doing the heaviest lifting while you sleep.
Hyaluronic Acid
Sodium Hyaluronate, HA
Hyaluronic Acid is one of the few skincare ingredients that does exactly what the label says. It is a naturally occurring molecule found in the human body, concentrated in the skin, eyes, and connective tissue, where its primary job is to hold water and keep tissue lubricated and plump. The reason it works so well in skincare is straightforward: a single molecule of Hyaluronic Acid can bind up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. When applied topically, it draws moisture from the environment and from the deeper layers of the skin and holds it at the surface where it is most visible and most needed. In The Aussie Man range, Hyaluronic Acid is found in the Ultimate Serum, where it works alongside plant-based Vegetable Collagen from seaweed and L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C). The serum is designed to be applied first in your morning or evening routine, before the moisturiser, so the Hyaluronic Acid can do its hydrating work on clean skin and the layers that follow seal it in.
Kakadu Plum
Terminalia Ferdinandiana, Gubinge, Billygoat Plum
Kakadu Plum is a small native Australian fruit that grows wild across the woodlands of northern Western Australia and the Northern Territory. It has been eaten and used medicinally by Aboriginal Australians for thousands of years, long before the skincare industry caught on to what it can do. What makes it genuinely interesting for skin is its Vitamin C concentration. It contains more natural Vitamin C per gram than almost any other fruit on the planet, which gives it real antioxidant firepower rather than the vague "brightening" claims you see on most skincare labels. At The Aussie Man, Kakadu Plum is used in the Daily Moisturiser, where it works alongside Aloe Vera and Quandong to support skin tone and provide antioxidant protection throughout the day.
Lemon Myrtle
Backhousia Citriodora, Native Lemon, Sweet Verbena Tree
Lemon Myrtle is a rainforest tree native to subtropical Queensland that produces leaves with the highest recorded natural concentration of citral of any plant on earth. Citral is the compound responsible for its intensely fresh, clean lemon scent, but the leaves contain far more than fragrance. Aboriginal Australians have used Lemon Myrtle as a bush food and medicinal plant for generations. In contemporary skincare it is valued for its antimicrobial potency and its ability to calm and brighten skin without the irritation associated with citrus-based ingredients. In The Aussie Man Intensive Eye Cream, Lemon Myrtle Extract is the first listed ingredient, making it the base of the formula. This is significant for an eye cream because the skin around the eye is the thinnest on the face, around 0.5mm compared to 2mm on the cheeks, and it requires ingredients that are both effective and genuinely gentle. Lemon Myrtle delivers both.
Niacinamide
Vitamin B3, Nicotinamide
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 and one of the most versatile active ingredients used in contemporary skincare. Unlike some actives that do one thing well, Niacinamide works across multiple skin concerns simultaneously, which is why it has become a fixture in serious skincare formulations over the past decade. It is water-soluble, stable across a wide pH range, and well tolerated by almost every skin type including sensitive and reactive skin. This combination of broad efficacy and low irritation potential is rare in skincare actives, most of which require trade-offs between strength and tolerability. In The Aussie Man range, Niacinamide is an active ingredient in the Detox Clay Mask, where it works alongside Kaolin, Bentonite, and Zinc Oxide. The mask format suits Niacinamide well because the extended contact time allows it to work more deeply than a rinse-off product would, while the clay base handles the physical extraction of congestion from pores.
Papaya Extract
Carica Papaya Fruit Extract, Asimina Triloba, Papain
Papaya Extract comes from the fruit of the Carica Papaya tree and contains a naturally occurring enzyme called papain. Enzymes in skincare work differently from acids or physical scrubs. Rather than abrading the skin surface or chemically dissolving the bonds between cells, papain selectively breaks down the protein structure of dead skin cells while leaving healthy living tissue untouched. This selectivity is what makes it suitable for daily use in a way that stronger exfoliants are not. Papaya also contains Vitamin C, Vitamin A precursors, and a range of antioxidant compounds that add nutritive value beyond the enzymatic action alone. It appears across two of The Aussie Man's most-used daily products. In the Daily Face Cleanser it works during your wash to break down dead cells and surface congestion. In the Daily Moisturiser it continues that gentle exfoliating action throughout the day, working alongside White Willow Bark to keep the skin surface clear, bright, and receptive to the active ingredients around it.
Seabuckthorn Extract
Hippophae Rhamnoides, Sea Buckthorn Kernel Extract, Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil
Seabuckthorn is a thorny shrub native to the Himalayan regions of Asia and parts of Europe. It produces small orange berries that are exceptionally dense in nutrients, so dense that the extract pressed from the seeds and pulp has become one of the most prized ingredients in serious skincare formulations. It is not a household name the way some ingredients are, but among formulators it is regarded as one of the most complete plant-based skincare actives available. The oil contains over 190 bioactive compounds including rare fatty acids, carotenoids, vitamins, and plant sterols that work together rather than as isolated actives. In The Aussie Man range, Seabuckthorn Kernel Extract appears in both the Anti-Ageing Elixir and the Intensive Eye Cream. In the Elixir it contributes to the overnight repair formula alongside Gotu Kola. In the Eye Cream it works on one of the most delicate and thin-skinned areas of the face where nutrient density matters most.
White Willow Bark
Salix Alba, Willow Bark Extract
White Willow Bark is one of those ingredients that has been used for a very long time for good reason. It comes from the bark of the white willow tree and contains salicin, a natural compound that the body converts into salicylic acid. You will recognise salicylic acid as the active ingredient in most acne treatments, except here it arrives in a gentler, slower-release form that does the job without stripping the skin. It appears in two of The Aussie Man's most-used products: the Daily Face Cleanser and the Daily Moisturiser. In the cleanser it helps clear dead skin and unclog pores during your wash. In the moisturiser it continues that work throughout the day, keeping the surface of the skin clear without the dryness that comes from using a dedicated exfoliant. This dual presence across your routine means it is working consistently rather than in one concentrated hit.
The Aussie Man focuses on simple, effective skincare designed specifically for men. Each product is formulated to deliver real results without unnecessary complexity, making it easier to maintain a consistent routine that improves skin over time.
